Instow is a gem of a village. It has a huge sandy beach that
stretches for miles at low tide. Even at the height of the summer
the beach never gets crowded.
The village is at the mouth of the estuary when the rivers Taw
and Torridge meet. In the summer there is a little ferry boat
that runs across to Appledore on the other side.
There is great sailing (racing on Dart 15 catamarans) at the
North Devon Yacht club (website.lineone.net/~ndyc/),
cycling on the Tarka trail, two good pubs (the Wayfarer and
The Bar), two very good restaurants.
The Boathouse (www.instow.net/boathouse.htm)
and Decks (www.decksrestaurant.co.uk),
a small family run hotel (www.commodore-instow.co.uk),
beach volleyball, waterskiing in the estuary, as well as rock
pooling and surfing / kite surfing at Westward Ho! Within a
short drive there are fabulous walks along the coast to Cornwall
(www.swcp.org.uk),
Exmoor National park, beaches and surfing at Croyde and Woolacombe,
etc etc (see Things to do).
Barnstaple is 8 miles away with its famous pannier market and
has a theatre, swimmimg pools, ten pin bowling etc
Bideford is a pretty town 3 miles away on the other side of
the river and has a large supermarket.

The village has its own in depth website which is a comprehensive
guide to the facilities available for the visitor to our
village.
