Walking
The South West Coast path follows the coast of Devon and Cornwall
(www.swcp.org.uk) A favourite local walk is from Westward
Ho! along towards Abbotsham (see Autumn photos). Exmoor is
half an hour away (www.exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk).
Sailing
North Devon Yacht Club is situated right in Instow. A very friendly
club, with full racing programme, mostly Dart 15 catamarans
(www.lineone.net/~ndyc/).
Surfing
Beginners surfing at Westward Ho! (5 mins) up to the UK’s
best surfing sites at Croyde and Putsborough.
Kite Sports
Buggies, landboarding, kite surfing, Kite ATBs all at Westward
Ho! (www.westwardwind.co.uk).
The Tarka trail
The Tarka Trail stretches over 180 miles taking a
looping route through North and Mid Devon, from the rugged
Atlantic Coast to the northern slopes of Dartmoor.
Mostly off-road, the Tarka Trail can be broken up into easily
managed sections for those who don't want a strenuous ride.

or Femimgton. We like the 45 min ride from Bideford theough
stunning Devon Hills following the river to a pub (the Puffing
Billy).

Clovelly
Beautiful village on the cliff side with cobbled streets down
to a pretty harbour. (www.clovelly.co.uk).
RHS Rosemoor
Wonderful RHS garden in Great Torrington, famed for

Lundy Island
Take a boat or helicopter to Lundy for the peace
the quiet and the puffins. (www.lundyisland.co.uk)
Tapeley Park
Tapeley Park stands on a hill overlooking Instow and the estuary.
Tapeley Park is the home of the Christie family, well known
for their operatic connections and their links to Glyndebourne.
The House has a collection of operatic costumes, as well as
fine furnishings and porcelain.
The gardens at Tapeley Park are the main attraction. The grounds
have a stunning collection of tender shrubs and palms, all laid
out in terraces on the sheltered hillside.
The Big Sheep
5 mins away. Fantastic children’s activity park. Everything
you can think of related to sheep. “Ewetopia”,
a large activity barn with slides and rope bridges, ball pits

The Milky Way
An excellent all weather amusement park. Falconry displays,
bumper cars and space rides, farm and country section (feed
lambs and watch chicks hatch out of eggs in an incubator) (www.themilkyway.co.uk)

Golf
Royal North Devon Golf Club is a challenging links
